Iranian American 2010 Census Coalition Ramps Up Activities

February 17, 2010, Washington, DC – On February 13, 2010, the Iranians Count YouTube Channel was officially launched as part of public awareness campaign by the Iranian American 2010 Census Coalition (IACC) about the importance of participating in the 2010 Census. The channel includes an interview conducted by Parisa DeFaie on TapeshTV with Nadia Babayi, Partnership Specialist, U.S. Census Bureau; Mahasti Afshar, Executive Director, PAAIA; and Bita Milanian, IACC Project Manager. The Iranians Count YouTube Channel is part of IACC’s campaign to reach the widest number of Iranian Americans nationally in the upcoming months.

In conjunction with these efforts, Farhang Foundation, the Iranian American Bar Association (IABA), and KIRN 670 radio hosted a Census Town Hall Meeting in Los Angeles at the Olympic Collection on February 16, 2010. Prominent speakers from L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa’s Office, the Census Bureau, and Chapman Law School addressed an enthusiastic audience of about 300. The Meeting concluded with stand-up comedy by Maz Jobrani and media interviews with organizations and citizens from the community.

Initiated by PAAIA in April, 2009, and launched as a coalition of 9 organizations in July of last year, IACC numbers 29 organizations from around the country as of this posting.
