Meet Dr. Nikki Iravani: Inventor of EyeXam App
May 12, 2015, Washington, D.C. – Dr. Nikki Iravani is the inventor of the EyeXam app – the first and only patented self-administered vision screening test for mobile devices. The EyeXam app is the eye care industry’s leading app which has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times from the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
Iravani, a renowned optometrist and Founder and CEO of Global EyeVentures, came up with the idea for EyeXam after listening to common vision problems. “Other moms kept complaining that they couldn’t read their smart phones and asked me if they should have an eye exam,” remarked Iravani about her inspiration for EyeXam.
Iravani’s EyeXam app was issued a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark office on January 22, 2015. The app provides free vision screening tests accompanied by a vision score, and helps users find a doctor nearby – all from the convenience of your mobile phone.
ABC News with Dianne Sawyer took notice of EyeXam and featured the app in a segment on eye care. It reported that the EyeXam app can help American families with their eye care needs by using EyeXam’s vision screening tests and directory of 30,000 eye care providers.
“It was especially encouraging that the producers and team at ABC discovered the EyeXam mobile app and sought us out,” said Iravani. “The attention we received is a testament to the app’s popularity and to the exceptional value it provides consumers and eye care professionals so hopefully many more people will download the app and benefit from everything it offers.”
Iravani graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston, College of Optometry. She has been recognized as one of the successful women in the optical industry and is a globally sought after industry speaker and ophthalmic consultant.
Dr. Iravani also enjoys her involvement with a number of Iranian American organizations such as PAAIA, iBridge, Persian Tech Entrepreneurs and the Iranian American Women Foundation and has been an invited speaker at a number of IAWL conferences including the recent conference in San Francisco.
