PAAIA Hosts a Collaborative Dialogue between the Iranian and American Medical and Public Health Communities

New York, May 19, 2015 – In support of increased collaboration between the medical and public health communities of the United States and Iran, the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) is hosting a luncheon today that brings together two Chancellors from Iran’s leading medical/health universities with distinguished Iranian American doctors from the New York Metropolitan area.

Hosted by PAAIA board member, Dr. Hamid Biglari and organized by PAAIA associates, Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh, Dr. Kamiar and Dr. Arash Alaei the luncheon will convene in New York City where Iranian Chancellors, Dr. Gholamreza Asghari of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences and Dr. Ali Jafarian of Tehran University of Medical Sciences are participating in a week-long visit to the United States at the invitation of University at Albany, State University of New York, President Robert J. Jones, to explore potential U.S.-Iran partnership opportunities.

The PAAIA luncheon intends to provide a venue to establish a personal relationship between respective leaders of well-known medical institutions in Iran and the U.S. in order to discuss needs assessment for areas of collaboration in program development and research initiatives.  The goal is to create a framework for potential academic exchange programs between interested institutions.

“As an organization that encourages constructive relations and works to enhance mutual understanding between the people of Iran and the people of the United States, PAAIA supports efforts to create mutual collaboration in the medical and public health communities of the two nations,” said Dr. Leila Austin, the Executive Director of PAAIA. “We welcome this opportunity for discussion and planning to build a foundation for mutual contributions with professionals in both countries.”

PAAIA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonreligious organization that serves the interests of Iranian Americans and represents the community before U.S. policymakers and the American public at large. The Iranian American community is in a unique position to help the citizens of Iran and the United States constructively engage with each other. PAAIA’s annual surveys have shown that U.S.-Iran relations are the single most important issue on the minds of Iranian Americans.
