Albany, NY, August 25, 2008 – Darius Shahinfar for Congress announced this week the release of its first television ads of the 2008 campaign. In his two ads, which are also posted on You Tube, Shahinfar poses a simple question: How can we change Washington, D.C. if we keep sending career politicians and lobbyists to represent us?
In the ads, Shahinfar pledges that he will not take a dime from lobbyist and that he will not use the Congressional healthcare system until all Americans have access to an affordable healthcare.
Shahinfar is running as a Democrat for New York’s 21st Congressional District seat being vacated by Representative Mike McNulty (D-NY). He is one of four remaining candidates out of an original field of nine to qualify for the September 9th Democratic primary. The 21st Congressional District is a safe Democratic district and the winner of the September 9th primary is expected to carry the election.
Shahinfar has put together a formidable campaign and recently added Joe Trippi & Associates as part of their media and internet communications arm. The campaign plans to run its TV commercials for two weeks on both network and cable TV. They also plan on sending targeted mailings throughout the district and a final get out the vote effort, which consists of moving their identified supporters to the polls.
A former Congressional aide and Albany County Deputy County Attorney, Shahinfar is running for Congress to “Renew America’s Promise.” His TV ads focus on the economy, healthcare, and corruption. Shahinfar concludes both commercials by drawing an analogy between his campaign and that of the Democratic nominee for President by stating that he will not be “the only Democratic with a funny sounding name working to change Washington.”
If elected, Shahinfar will also make history by becoming the first American of Iranian descent to serve in the U.S. Congress.
