PAAIA's New York City Chapter Welcomes Farokhi

October 6, 2009, New York, New York Yesterday PAAIA members and friends from New York City gathered in support of Amir Farokhi’s campaign for Atlanta City Council.  The reception was held at the home of PAAIA’s New York City Chapter leader Laleh Bashirrad.

Farokhi is a Principal with the Truman National Security Project, a graduate of Duke University School of Law, and, until recently, an attorney with the law firm of McKenna Long and Aldridge, LLP.  A recognized civic leader and occasional contributor to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Farokhi’s campaign has been picking up major support and generating widespread support across Atlanta.  His upbeat message has helped put him among the most successful fundraisers in this year’s City Council race, having out raised all other new comers and some incumbents. The Atlanta AFL-CIO as well as the Atlanta Police and Fire Fighters Unions recently endorsed Farokhi’s campaign and the Committee for a Better Atlanta recently rated Amir "Excellent."

Farokhi is the face of an emerging leadership within the Iranian American community.  His success in Atlanta will likely have far reaching implications for the Iranian  American community at-large.  As such, his campaign was formally endorsed and supported by PAAIA in May of 2009.

The evening provided an opportunity for PAAIA members to meet with Farokhi in an intimate setting, learn about his campaign, and expand his network within the Iranian American community in the Northeast.
