PAAIA's focus is strictly on domestic matters of inerests or concern to the Iranian American community. As such, any involvement that PAAIA may have with respect to the issue of U.S. - Iran sanctions is expected to strictly focus on managing its impact on the Iranian American community by, for example, facilitating legitimate humanitarian aid to Iran or identifying and seeking modifications OFAC restrictions that may unreasonably restrict legitimate activities in the United States.
More broadly, whether sanctions against Iran are appropriate or effective is a complicated question that is better addressed by experts on the subject. We note, for example, that many scholars and observers believe that unilateral sanctions may not necessarily advance the national interests sought to be promoted. In the case of United States sanctions against Iran, for instance, many experts have taken the position that, aside from having disproportionately harmful impact on the Iranian people, sanctions may not necessarily advance U.S. interests or foreign policy goals in the region.
