PBS LogoOctober 19, 2011, New York, New York – Two Cats Productions, an Emmy award winning documentary film production company is producing a film for Public Television on the story of Iranian Americans. Some of those interviewed for the film include Firouz Naderi, Goli Ameri, Hamid Biglari, Firouzeh Dumas, Maz Jobrani and many others. The film is being produced in association with the flagship PBS station of Los Angeles KOCE, and is expected to air on Public Television in early 2012. The executive producer Andrew Goldberg has directed numerous PBS specials including, The Armenian Americans, Jerusalem: Center of the World, A Yiddish World Remembered, and Proud to Serve with Walter Cronkite, among many others. For this upcoming special currently titled, “The Iranian Americans” they are reaching out to see if you can help. To learn more about the producers, log on to their website at www.twocatstv.com.

The goal of this one hour Hi-Definition documentary is to celebrate the Iranian American experience —from its rich history, to language, culture and food, our film traces the growth of this multifaceted community and its tremendous contributions to the United States.

The producers are in need of footage and photographs for their film. If anyone has any of the following, please reach out to them. This will help make the show as good as it can be.  Do you have:

  • Photographs/home video or films of life in Iran before or during the Revolution, family life to beauty shots (anything and everything helps!)
  • Photographs, video or film of Iranian students and/or Iranian cultural groups at American Universities in the 1970s: group shots, graduation pictures, class photos, etc.
  • Photography, video or film of immigration from Iran, consulates, airplanes, crowded airport scenes
  • Los Angeles in the late 70s and early 80s, when the first major wave of Iranians migrated to the United States. Anything from places of worship to family celebrations and parties, places of worship, shops, street scenes… essentially anything marking the birth of “Irangeles”
  • Any and all images, home video and photos of Iranians living in America, from family parties to cultural events (from the 80s to today)
  • Any family footage of “Persian Thanksgivings” over the decades
  • Big intergenerational family photos (more than 25 people), photos and video of Persian weddings both in the United States and Iran

Also, the producers are looking for a Persian grandmother in the NY area, who moved to the United States with her family right after the revolution and can discuss what it was like to raise children in a new culture while dealing with homesickness and political uncertainty back in Iran. The producers would appreciate receiving any images and videos as soon as possible, so please reach out to them by October 31st with all the photos you can find!

If you can help, please call the producer, Sara Goldblatt at (212) 929-2085. Thank you so much!
