Esteemed Iranian American scholar Lotfi Zadeh was awarded the 2009 Benjamin Franklin Medal in electrical engineering. A graduate of Tehran University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Columbia University, Zadeh received the award for his theory of “fuzzy logic”. His theory, which focuses on how artificial intelligence processes information, has been integrated into numerous household and electronic products used everyday.
